Finish above everyone else. Your position at the end is what counts, not the money on its own.
$1,000,000 sits between you and one opponent. Half the rounds you decide how it splits. Half the rounds you answer someone else's proposal.
If the answer is no, the million is destroyed and both of you get nothing. Refusing can also be a way to stop your opponent from going up the ranks.
Any place, first included, is settled the same way. Whoever refused more deals takes it. Level on that too, the spot is yours, and ties between opponents fall to alphabetical order.
No two of them play alike. Some are fair, some greedy, some barely rational. They read what you have done before, they repay a slight, and they gamble when they fall behind. They are playing each other as hard as they play you.
Opponents remember how you have dealt with everyone, not only with them. Refuse a thin offer and the table learns your price. Take whatever you are handed and they will start offering less.
A player adrift at the bottom will take almost anything. A leader is the one everyone most wants to refuse.
